Sugar Daddy: Here’s What to Do to Avoid Getting Catfished & Fatfished
You meet a girl on a sugar dating website such as MySugarDaddy. Her sugaring profile makes her seem interesting and gorgeous, but in real life… she is nothing like in the pictures. That’s when you realize you got either catfished or fatfished.
In this article, you’ll learn what catfishing and fatfishing means and how to prevent it from happening.
What does it mean to get “catfished” or “fatfished”?
According to Wikipedia’s definition of catfishing, “catfishing is a deceptive activity where a person creates a fictional persona or fake identity on a social networking service, usually targeting a specific victim. The practice may be used for financial gain, to compromise a victim in some way, as a way to intentionally upset a victim, or for wish fulfillment.”
When it comes to sugar dating, catfishing usually refers to scammers pretending to be sugar daddies or sugar babies for the money. You can read more about such scams in our article titled “Love scams“.
However, some people catfish not by pretending to be someone else, but by pretending to be a different version of themselves, such as their younger self. That’s where fatfishing comes into play. Fatfishing is when someone makes it seem like they are much slimmer than in reality. This can be done by sharing pictures from before they gained the extra weight and by carefully choosing pictures that make them look skinnier because of the angle, clothes or photoshop.
What can you do to prevent it?
Being catfished or fatfished can be very disappointing. It might make you feel like a fool for wasting your time and being gullible. Here are some things you can do to avoid it:
- Ask for a recent full body shot. Since she could send you an old picture, also follow our other tips.
- When getting to know a new sugar baby, ask her for a verification picture, something hard to fake. For example, it could be a picture of her holding a sign with your username handwritten in it. Be aware that she might not be able to send one right away. She might be at work, in class or want to get her makeup done for the picture.
- Have a video call with her before the meet & greet. This deters nearly all catfishers, will save you a lot of time and can be done without leaving our platform! 😉
